Private John Prendergast

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

John Prendergast enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 10 and 13 August 1914 (No.995 – later Corps of Hussars No.71189). He may have had previous military experience, for just days later, on 20 August, he embarked for France with C Squadron, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

Prendergast remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 25 February 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.

Some time after the war he lived at 36 Balkan Street, Belfast.
